The Design: Hops & Barley – What Beer Is Made Of

Beer is made from four simple ingredients: water, malted barley, hops and yeast. Our engraving celebrates the two plants behind every brew:

• Hops (Humulus lupulus) – the cone-shaped flowers of the hop vine. They give beer its bitterness, aroma and flavor, from the citrus and pine notes of an IPA to the soft spice of a lager, and help keep beer fresh.
• Barley – the grain that is malted to provide the sugars yeast turns into alcohol. Malt gives beer its color, body and bready, caramel sweetness.
